We know that the Nürburgring during the week is the same for car manufacturers like what rain should be for the people of California at the moment. This week it isn’t different, Audi is testing it’s GT3 variant of the R8. The even more leightweight R8 did a laptime of 8:41, not fast at first view, but when you know it’s raining and the temperatures are rather low, it’s not bad at all. Big question is, will they ever reach the 7:26 the Corvette ZR1 lapped a while ago, offcourse in dry conditions.

During the last weeks we saw several teasers on how the new Ford Mustang would look like. Yesterday, Ford finally unveiled the 2010 model. This time Ford did just a little bit more than change the front or back lights. First we can say that the car looks way more aggressive and that interior aswell as the rest of the car was reviewed. The engines didn’t change that much. The 4.0 liter V6 stays the same and the 4.6 liter V8 in GT now gets an output of 315 bhp. Positive note, the 2010 in it’s name doesn’t mean that you have to wait that long to order or drive one, you can expect the first ones to be in the American showrooms next spring. All details and pictures can be found below…

Japanese company LB Performance have been running since 1993 according to their website. We certainly hadn’t noticed them until we happened to run across their website. Their modifications to Lamborghini’s Murcielago appear to be some of the most brutal we have ever seen. In all they offer 23 different modifications for the car, all appear to be cosmetic. All cars on the website also appear to be lowered to extreme levels although the website mentions nothing about suspention kits however. There are front bumpers which replicate the new Reventon, new wheels and exhaust mufflers, body kits and spoilers. Take a look for yourself by following the link at the bottom of the page…

Project Kahn’s newest project is on the Audi R8. Kahn lowers the suspension and slaps on 20″ F1-X rims made of lightweight carbon fiber. There are no more details than that, just the pic.
Project Kahn says on its website that, “You do not need to worry about the engine,” referring to Audi’s 4.2 liter FSI, 414 hp (309 kW) V8. Which we can interpret to mean that there won’t be any engine tuning to this Kahn creation. We’ll see what the future brings…

News from Edo Competition always makes us smile. This time that isn’t different, their latest project was based on Porsche’s Cayenne GTS. Edo Competition gives it an output 450 bhp (405 standard) making a top speed of 270 km/h (168 mph) possible. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes a nice 6.4 seconds, we can call that decent for an SUV. Offcourse they didn’t only work on the engine, also the aerodynamics got a sporty package, the GTS now stands on 22 inch light alloy wheels with custom-painted centers, sports suspension and there’s a new high performance braking system. That last one is always practical with high powered cars.

The first image of 9ff’s attempt at building the world’s fastest production car hit the web today. Last year 9ff already showed you the 9ff GT9 with 910 hp that reached a breathtaking top speed of 409 km/h. The next step however is the R version of this GT9, brace yourself: it has 1120 hp good for 1050Nm torque. Further performance figures are still undisclosed but we bet it will be fast, really, really fast!
The first image of the new 9ff GT9-R shows what we would imagine a 1120 hp Porsche 911 to look like. Fully functional air vents, front splitter, roof scoop and a big rear wing, this is a car the real speed freaks must have been waiting for. We look forward to see and hear 9ff’s fastest in action.

Our database problems came at one of the worst possible times this year. Carbon Black 2008 jetted off on the 3rd October for a week of supercar and party excess. In true Carbon Black style the grid was packed with 30 of the world’s most expensive and exclusive supercars. Among the entries were a Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Murcielago, a number of McLaren SLR’s including a 722 edition and 911 turbo’s. Our friends from Tangospeed.com took part in a 911 Turbo, there was even live footage streamed from one of the staff cars.

Since we’ve been away, TechArt have started fiddling with their 997 911 Turbo based GTStreet model and produced the GTStreet R. Being big fans of TechArt, we at GTSpirit absolutely love it! The headline figures are a staggering 660bhp and 860Nm of torque, 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 214mph. The power increase of 30bhp over the standard GTStreet makes an obvious difference on paper.

Ashley van Dyke send us her experiences from the time she spend on the Bullrun earlier this year. The Bullrun started in Calgary and finished in Scottsdale, Arizona 7 days later. Ashley joined up with the pack in Las Vegas. We hope you enjoy her writeup:
Another season of Bullrun started for me in Vegas when I met up with the gang coming down from Calgary. My Z06 was accompanied by the Destination X team with Wu in the Hummer and a Jeep of camera personnel. We hit our first check point at Spring Mountain Ranch, my personal sponsor and good friends, with breakfast and track time. We spent 2 hours on the road course while the Hummer was dealing with over heating issues. I was also taken out in a Radical for some pretty insanely fast lap times. Pushing on through the hot temps we left Spring Mountain heading straight through Death Valley. We were worried about the Hummer and especially our Street Fire buddies as they were in an open top Cobra. Richard Rawlings was the one with the worst luck as a fuel leak line left him on the side of the road but lucky for him the Destination X Jeep and Wu in the Hummer stuck it out to provide help. They later made it to the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills around 9pm at night after I had long had dinner was on my way to the 944 party.

A few weeks ago we got the chance to get a ride in a Porsche 997 GT3. I can imagine that doesn’t sound so special but we could lap the Nürburgring several times. In the video below you can see a clip of one of the laps we did. The GT3 isn’t a complete stock one, it was taken to Manthey Racing for a few changes. It now has new suspension top mounts based on those from the racing team. The top mounts allow great adjustment to the caster and camber, allowing greater stability at high speed on the road and reducing understeer in the corners and on track.

In last nights episode of Top Gear the three Brits went over to the US of A to see if the modern day muscle car is any good. For this test they take out a Dodge Challenger, Corvette ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V and attend the drag races on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Jeremy tests the Fiat Nuova 500 Abarth SS and Will Young has a go in the reasonably priced car.
